Welding Instructor
Joe grew up in Derby, Kansas, and at 17 years old joined the United States Marine Corps. During his military service, he met people from many different backgrounds whose experiences inspired him to pursue a career in welding.
After returning to Wichita, Kansas, Joe enrolled at Heartland Welding Academy (HWA) while working full-time as an aerospace manufacturing technician and fabrication welder. Upon completing HWA’s six-month Pipe Welding Program, he transitioned into the rail industry, where he worked as a repair welder and earned Level II certifications in five nondestructive testing (NDT) methods.
While building his career in the rail industry, Joe stayed connected with Heartland Welding Academy as a part-time instructor. After several years of working closely with the school, he accepted the opportunity to become a full-time instructor. Today, Joe is passionate about sharing HWA’s knowledge, culture, and commitment to preparing students for successful careers in the skilled trades.
When he’s off the clock, Joe enjoys spending time with family and friends, meeting new people, and surrounding himself with those who are driven to better themselves.
